Ever since our visit to the Hello Kitty cafe (in Chatswood, Sydney) four years ago where we experienced our first ever freakshake, I have been dying to try them out for myself and this current lockdown situation has presented the perfect opportunity.
I promised my kids we'd make them and of course Denny hounded me until I finally picked up the blender and got to work. The actual milkshake part is so simple it's ridiculous. Literally vanilla ice cream, some milk and whatever you want to add for flavour - I'll include the ingredients for the three shakes we made below - and then blitz!

The more complex part of the process is prepping the jar. I bought the jars pictured from my local Kmart, I was looking for the ones with handles but couldn't find them so went with these. Okay, so prepping... first I melted some chocolate and rolled the rim of each jar in turn before showering my sprinkles of choice over it. Then I started on those cool internal drips.
I already had some caramel sauce pre-made (recipe here) which I carefully 'spilled' down the interior walls of jar number one. Into this jar I poured a concoction of the aforementioned ice cream and milk along with one whole banana all blitzed up in the blender (see, super simple)! I added a dollop of whipped cream and some banana candies on top, oh and some edible glitter!
For jar number two I prepared a chocolate ganache. Very easy to make, I heated 60ml (or grams, as they are the same) of double (or thickened) cream in a small saucepan, once it was steaming I removed it from the heat and added 90g of dark chocolate broken up. Swirl the pan at this point to help the chocolate melt. Once you have a thick but still liquid consistency you can drip it into the inside walls of your jar while the rest gets thrown into the blender along with your ice cream and milk to form the chocolate milkshake of our line up.
Along with the whipped cream I added mini Toblerones and an Oreo cookie to complete Noah's chocco freakshake!
Denny's vanilla freakshake was spruced up with a white chocolate ganache which we coloured with Colour Mill Hot Pink oil colour. To make white chocolate ganache following the same process as the dark chocolate version but this time it's comprised of 75ml cream and 75g white chocolate buttons. Once it's all come together you can add your colouring and make sure to use an oil or powder based colouring as the common gel and liquid food colours will make your chocolate seize.
I topped Denny's shake with a vanilla donut (recipe here), whipped cream and a macaron, and of course glitter!
Needless to say they disappeared far more quickly than the time it took to make them!
